Buying a Home in San Diego County

Back when I had a traveling job, I would often talk to strangers while waiting for a flight. The subject was always the same… where are you going? People light up when you say San Diego: “I love San Diego!” It was the zoo or La Jolla Shores or a terrific stay at the Hotel del Coronado they want to tell you about.

Everyone loves San Diego. Let us count the reasons why:

  1. The weather

  2. Natural beauty all around with coastline, the bay and the natural topography of our mountains

  3. Friendly people

  4. Lots of interesting things to see

  5. Lots of interesting PLACES TO LIVE!

San Diego County is large and diverse, covering different cities, and countless neighborhoods containing (by the 2010 census) just over 3 million people.

Can You Afford a Home in San Diego County?

People hear that a house is, say, $800,000. That sounds like a large number to many people. The funny thing is that if you ask them how that translates into monthly payments and a down payment, they often have no idea at all.

Do you have to have 10% or 20% down? No. Are there special programs available to first time buyers? Definitely. Before you say you “can’t afford a house in San Diego” talk to a qualified lender. You might be surprised!
